Dear Premier McGuinty,

You have said you will prorogue the Legislature this week.

Bill 32, an Act to prevent the disposal of waste at Site 41 in the Township of Tiny, will die unless you include it in the government motion of bills to carried forward into the next session.

Bill 32 would revoke the Certificate of Approval for Site 41. Simcoe County Council - despite having voted to stop the dump - has refused the Site 41 group's repeated pleas to give it up. Councillors state it adds 'value' to the site. This only makes sense if councillors plan to go back on their decision not to allow a dump atop the area's exceptionally clean water - found to be purer than ancient Arctic ice cores - that is source water for the Alliston Aquifer.

So the Site 41 group turned to the Legislature for help and supporters across the province were overjoyed when members from all parties supported Simcoe North MPP Garfield Dunlop's Bill 32, gave it second reading and referred it to the Standing Committee on Justice Policy.

I want the committee to be given the opportunity to consider the Bill, make any changes it deems necessary, and send it back to the House for third reading and enactment.

So far, appeals to your House Leader appear to have fallen on deaf ears. The Site 41 group has been told by opposition members that the only way to ensure Bill 32 goes forward is by contacting you and persuading you that this is a good idea.

Mr. Premier, Dump Site 41 was turned down by an environmental review tribunal and only went ahead when the last Liberal government under David Peterson rescinded that decision with a 1990 Order in Council.

Now, it appears that Bill 32, which could finally put the Site 41 issue to rest, will be consigned to oblivion because of other priorities on your legislative agenda.

There is no need for this to happen.

I appeal to you to ensure that it doesn't.

Please put Bill 32 on the Order and Notices paper for the next session.
